How to prepare for and pass the CISSP exam

The globally renowned CISSP® (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) qualification has become a prerequisite for anyone developing a senior career in information security.

As of June 2018, there were 589 CISSP members located in the UAE, 335 in Saudi Arabia and 120 in Qatar ((ISC)2 Member Counts – CISSP, 2018).

Preparing for and passing the CISSP exam is not easy. However, to give GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) candidates a helping hand, we have gathered some useful information and resources to help prepare and pass the exam.

Where can I take the CISSP exam?

All (ISC)2 exams, including CISSP, are offered at Pearson VUE test centres across the world.

There are several test centres in the Gulf where you can take the CISSP exam, including centres located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai (UAE), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait City (Kuwait) and Doha (Qatar).

How much is the CISSP exam fee?

In the Middle East, the CISSP exam registration costs US$699 ((ISC)2 Exam Pricing).

How hard is the CISSP exam?

A recent survey found that 70% of respondents found CISSP a difficult certification.

CISSP is aimed at mid- and senior-level managers, and requires an in-depth knowledge of the eight domains.

However, CISSP is listed as one of the most valuable IT security certifications of 2018 by CIO.com, and gaining it will help you stand out against other IT professionals.

Candidates need at least 700 out of a possible 1000 points (70%) to pass the exam.

How long does the CISSP exam take?

The exam is made up of 100-150 multiple-choice questions and advanced innovative items that will evaluate expertise across the 8 security domains.

“Questions may be scenario-based items with more than one multiple-choice item” ((ISC)2).

The exam lasts 3 hours and candidates should arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before the exam start time. The exam time includes any unscheduled breaks you may take – all breaks count against your testing time.

How to prepare for the CISSP exam

On the day of the exam, you will need to bring two forms of identification, provide a signature, submit to a palm vein scan (unless prohibited by law), have your photo taken and leave personal belongings outside the exam room.
